If you select a salon that you don’t like then you will dread going to the beauty treatments that are intended to make you feel good about yourself. To start your search you should create a list of characteristics that you want from your salon. This list should include price, location, personality of the stylist, services offered, and experience and skill level of your hair stylist.

One of the salon characteristics that usually impacts a person’s salon choice is the salon’s location. People want to find a salon that is close to their home. However, if they find a superior salon or stylist then they may be willing to travel.

The second salon characteristic that impacts a person’s salon choice is the selection of services that are offered. For people who usually only go to the salon for a cut, color and style a limit list of services is fine. However, there are people who want a salon that offers all the bells and whistles including spa treatments.

Price is another consideration that impacts people’s salon choices. People want to go to a salon that offers reasonable prices for the services that are offered. People on tight budgets may want to consider going to a teaching salon, as these salons offer beauty treatments for a lot less money than a regular salon.

The most important factor that determines what salon a person goes to is the personality and talent of the hair stylist. When you are searching for a hair stylist you want to make sure that you like their personality. You also want to make sure that they know how to handle your hair type.

<img src="http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g89/foxycurl/Picture1.gif"align="right">Mobile spas are starting to proliferate and operate actively in most markets. Conceptualized and developed on the principle that clients are more at home and comfortable having spa services provided right at the coziness and privacy of home, mobile spas are truly patronized well. In fact, mobile spas are most in-demand in busy markets across the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe.

Clients are ultimately enjoying and taking advantage of mobile spas. For them, day spas that are brought to the comfort of their own homes are really a pleasure. No wonder, mobile spas have been welcomed by the market with warm and amiably open arms.

If you are an entrepreneur and you want to enter into the day spa business, or if you are already into spa operations, you should consider getting into the mobile spa business. Because clients are raving about the idea and the concept, you can always be sure you will have a huge demand for your spa services. There are other logical and appealing reasons why you should take your spa business right to the doorsteps of clients.

* Mobile spas require little cost. Because you will not pay higher rents for business sites and establishments, you will not incur much for operating expenses. Utility bills, maintenance, premium-rate insurance, and business tax implementations can be waived or at least significantly minimized.

* There is much flexibility and freedom. You will work on your own schedule and not be boxed within set hours and enclosed areas. There is an ongoing excitement everyday because routines are broken down. Everyday, you could take your business to different places.

* The business income could become unlimited. Because your mobile spa is your business, your efforts will dictate your profitability. In other words, your earnings and revenue potential can be limitless, depending on the number of calls and service orders you receive.

* Business risks can be somehow limited. Your mobile spa can be a part-time business if you like to retain your present job for security purposes. Once you establish your clientele and have your own niche and a bunch of loyal patrons, you can decide whether you will like to go full time or maintain the part-time status.

* You can realize several tax advantages by claiming legal business expenses from your gross income. Thus, your supplies, vehicle expenditures, and home office supplies can be declared as official business expenses.

* Lastly, there is a potential for total career satisfaction. When you get into the mobile spa business, you are outright building a business based more on your level of efforts, skills, and expertise. Try putting up and operating a mobile day spa and experience for yourself why many clients and entrepreneurs are all getting more into it.

Staying current in your industry and diversifying your product and service line are two keys to growing and even maintaining your business in rough economic times. Look for competitive advantages wherever you can.

<img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m79/Karina6278/Spa.jpg"align="right">One of the most exciting business opportunities for many seeking to run their own business is the spa business.

There are a great many unique and individual business opportunities in the world of spas, from running a nail salon to running a tanning salon to running a full service day spa or even a larger spa retreat.

==The Business Plan Can Help You Raise Start Up Money==

How you structure your new spa business is entirely up to you, but it is important to create a detailed spa business plan in order to get your new venture off the ground.

Starting a new spa business can be quite an expensive undertaking, and it will be impossible to raise the startup cash you need to purchase property, rent space, hire employees and buy the equipment you need without a solid and detailed spa business plan behind you.

==Detailing The Day To Day Operation In Your Plan==

The spa business plan you create should lay out in detail exactly what will be required for the opening and day to day operation of the proposed spa business.

This information will include the equipment you will need to purchase, things like tanning beds, pedicure and manicure equipment, exercise machines and the like. In addition, the spa business plan should detail how many employees you will need to hire and at what salaries.

==Detailing The Services You Plan To Offer At Your Spa Business==

In addition, your business plan should detail exactly what services you plan to offer to your clients, and at what prices. It is important to be as detailed in this section as possible.

For instance, if you plan to offer overnight accommodations to extended spa services, you will need to detail how much you will charge for those accommodations, and which services will be offered to your guests.

If you plan to offer day spa services only, you will need to detail what services you will offer to your guests, and what prices you plan to charge.

It is important to offer prices that are competitive with those of already established spa businesses, and if you can offer services they do not you will be in an even stronger position and more likely to succeed.

<img src="http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j46/draia26/Massagetherapy.jpg"align="right">My fellow Entrepreneurs:

Customer Satisfaction Surveys - Are you using them? Well, you’d better start today if you want to retain your customers and keep them coming back.

Small business owners don’t have to look too far to come up with ways to increase their sales because their current database is being neglected and dying a slow death. Sooner or later, a major competitor will come into town and lure them all away.

If you are the owner of a business and care to make money, then you’ll want to sit up and listen to this. It’s better than a pint of your favorite Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream.

Find out what your customers want. I know you were expecting something truly revolutionary but let me tell you a little secret: most of your competitors are not doing this.

If you take heed to what I’m about to say…then you will find that it is one of the easiest ways of increasing sales of your products and/or services. Go and ask your customers what is that they want and then give it to ‘em.

You can put together a survey asking your customers to let you know what it is that you are doing well and what needs improvement. Believe me, they will be happy you asked.

There are people everywhere who live to fill out those little survey cards and they take it very seriously. This is what you want. This kind of thing will make your customers feel that you appreciate them and the value that they bring to your place of business.

Oh, I can hear some of you moaning already: “I don’t know how to conduct a survey. I wouldn’t know where to even start.”

Okay, that’s why you’ve got me leaning over your shoulder giving you instructions on how to get this thing up and rolling. Turn off your instant message box and lean forward, my friend.

Let’s pretend you have a pet daycare business for the super-duper affluent folks (just because I want to spend some of their money!).

Some of your services include:

Pooch Massage & Evian Water Treat: Fido gets reika massage fingers running up and down his spine and a big bowl of all he can drink Evian water afterwards.

15 Minute Story Book Time: Pets boarding over night can have mother goose rhymes read to them by a staff - extra $$ if a goose costume is required to be worn by the employee.

Belly-Rub Hour: You pick the time for a staff to spend time with your pet and do nothing but rub its’ belly.

Hey, you can laugh and shake your heads all you want but pet parents are serious about their little furry friends and they will beg, borrow, and/or steal to provide them the very best that life has to offer.

I should know as I’m a pet parent myself- proud mommie to the world’s greatest boxer girl. Oh, how I love her!

Alright, enough about that.

We were talking about conducting surveys for your pet business (or any business for that matter) in order to give your customers what they want. You can design a feedback card that your customers fill out when they make a purchase.

Ask them to let you know what they think about the pet services you provide and/or what changes in behavior do they notice since Fido has been using them. One of the things you can do is offer a prize drawn every month in exchange for their comments.

I would advise you to take it even further and conduct a phone survey through an independent third party, especially if you are offering high value services or items to learn from your customers the good, the bad, and the very ugly.

This is the kind of thing that will get your customers spreading good word of mouth about your business because it makes them feel great that they are being acknowledged. They will be more than happy to give you the feedback that you need to provide excellent service and stay competitive.

Your competitors are not doing this. Many are lazy and simply don’t care about their customers on this level and frankly don’t want to do the work necessary.

I need to prepare you to expect your customers to tell you exactly what’s on their mind about what they think about your business during the call placed by an independent third party. Why should you hire a third party, you ask?

Well, if you were the one doing the calling….your customers may not be as honest as you’d need them to be but if the survey is being conducted in which they can remain anonymous…people are more likely to express every single problem they may have with your services:

“Fido told me that you cheat him out of his belly rubs - giving him 45 minutes of the one hour required!”

“Kitty has awful flatulence since she’s been drinking your water. I specifically asked your staff to give her Evian, you morons!”

Here is another idea: you can also set up an on-line survey where you allow your customers to create anonymous accounts when logging in so they can feel that they can openly share their concerns.

This is excellent research for you and it will save you so much agony from having to come up with your own ideas when it comes to creating new products.

All you have to do is turn to your already existing client base and ask them for their input about what they want by way of product suggestions, new services and/or items they would like.

Once you’ve read through all the comments and suggestions you will then be able to make smart decisions as to whether or not you want to introduce new products and/or services. You’ll have the data to help you improve the areas in your business that you need to immediately focus on.

Also, you’ll know exactly what you need to do to increase your profits because your customers will tell you everything and guide you every step of the way to keep your business thriving successfully for a very long time to come - even in a slow economy.

Reason to fear a recession? Your competitors, yes. But not you!

Diagnostic terminology is set; medications from prescription drugs to anesthesia are globally-available.

Medical tourism takes advantage of this standardization of medical procedures. Doctors overseas—many of whom have trained in the US or Canada, or be members of international professional association—assure their patients that they’ll enjoy the same quality of care as they would at home, if not better.

Thailand is perhaps the best-established destination for medical tourism, and much of that is due to Thai doctors’ and hospital administrators’ global knowledge. Thai facilities’ characteristically high level of health routinism means that patients enjoy medical care and hospital experiences that are higher than, or at least comparable to, standards in their home countries. Not only do many Thai physicians hold US professional certification; a number of Thai hospitals maintain cooperative relationships with facilities in the US as well. Many travel to hospitals in Thailand for plastic surgery or other forms of cosmetic surgery from North America, Europe, and Japan.

India is developing a competitive market in health tourism, and may industry observers credit the expansion of India’s health tourism industry to the profession’s global scope. Leading facilities in India are designed to the same specifications and equipped like research hospitals anywhere else in the globe. India is not alone in transferring the globalization of medicine to the tourist industry’s benefit. So, too, do medical facilities in Singapore and the Philippines offer patients world-class medical and dental procedures.

Just as health routinism is by no means restricted to Thailand, medical tourism’s recent growth is by no means restricted to Asia. Each year, more and more travelers book tickets to Eastern Europe or south in the Americas for dental treatments, to South Africa for aesthetic surgery, or to Canada for laser treatments.

In this article, I will go over some example of tools that help you become successful.

Scenario 1 - Construction Company. If you own your own construction company there are quite a few items that you need. For example, you will need your tools, such as the basics like hammers, nails, screwdrivers, and much more. You would also need a truck for your company to haul your tools. Depending on what type of construction that you are doing, you may also need a ladder, or other large tools like a power washer. You also need “office” type items, such as a computer with billing/invoice/proposal type software, a business phone number, a fax machine may be needed, and a cellular phone so you can contact your clients on the go.

Scenario 2 - Tanning Salon. If you are running a tanning salon, there are also quite a few items that you need. Obviously you will need office space, and tanning beds. Depending on how large your office space is, you may need about 5 or 6 tanning beds. Also, tanning salons usually sell tanning lotions and bathing suits as well. Next, you will need a cash register, or possibly two cash registers, a business phone line, possibly a fax machine, and a waiting room area with some chairs. Some tanning salons offer the tanning beds where you stand in them, and get sprayed with the fake tan. This is becoming very popular, and you would probably want to offer this service as well with yours.

Scenario 3 - Online Franchisee. If you are interested in becoming an online franchisee, such as working with small business owners and their websites there are tools that you will need that will be pertinent to your success. For example, you will need a Pre Opening Manual, which discusses everything needed to start your business. You will need an Operations Manual which gives procedures in running your business. You will need software that keeps track of all your customers and billing information. You will also need software that automatically generates proposals for your clients. Next, you will also need “office” type tools, such as a computer, dedicated office, dedicated business line or cellular phone and possibly a fax machine.

As you can see, with any business there are tools that are needed to keep your business running and to be successful. These are just three scenarios that I have given here, and just the main items. Of course depending on your needs with any of these three scenarios you may need more or less of the tools talked about here.

<img src="http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii121/thailandplace/spa/Nibhana_Spa_06.jpg"align="right">Owning you own business is not just about being you own boss or being able to boast at dinner tables that you are self-employed, in fact the first few years of operating and running your own business are an absolute nightmare. The reality is that you should be prepared to go on your first real holiday only after 5 years of starting your own business. Of course there are those who can go on an extended holiday in their first year of business but, believe me, they are few and far between. Being an entrepreneur is hard, but it can be very rewarding

The art of entrepreneurship is as old as mankind itself, people have always traded since time immemorial and there have always been people who are far much better than the rest at aggregating supplies and/or services and selling them at a profit, while at the same time employing people to do various tasks for them.

These types of people have, in the modern world become known as entrepreneurs. I remember at school at age 12, we had a fellow schoolmate who used to bring fizz-pops to school and sell them to us at a ridiculous price and as much as we would complain and call him all sorts of nasty names, he would have absolutely no stock by lunch time. In those days, he had figured out that even though fizz-pops were very popular amongst school children, most of us could never remember to buy the cheaper fizz-pops at the shops on our way to school.

Therefore his success in this little venture was mainly due to the following reasons:

· the product was in great demand

· he offered tremendous convenience by selling his product right outside the classrooms

· he had a virtual monopoly because the school tuck-shop for whatever reason had no desire to stock these popular products

· he went about his business with dogged determination despite being called unflattering names by his peers

After a while another boy decided to enter this lucrative market, however as much as we loathed the first boy we all continued to buy his fizz-pops. Needless to say the new entrant into the market could not penetrate the market. Whether by design or foresight, the first boy had established what is known in the business world as reputation, a brand and trust – all intangible assets.

The above example demonstrates that entrepreneurs see opportunities that others do not or unwilling to see and act upon them. Any one of the 600 school kids at my school could have supplied the fizz-pops but none of us did because we neither saw the opportunity nor were we prepared to go through the hassle of buying the supplies etc every day. We were comfortable enough to receive pocket-money from our parents every day. Needless to say this boy, now a man, runs his own very successful business, while most of us work for that monthly pay packet.

The lesson here, is that, whatever business you decide to go into develop your reputation, establish a brand and develop trust. These do not come overnight, it is a process and not an event. Once you have a particular goal for your business in sight, do not be discouraged or distracted from achieving that goal.

As much as it is very satisfying to be your own boss and employ other people, it is just as satisfying to be able to see the value of your business increase over time. Remember that your business is a commodity that can be bought and sold just like any other commodity and in the same way that people are prepared to buy quality commodities at a premium the same applies to your business. Even if you are not ready to sell your business just yet, you still need to keep close tabs on how much it is worth on the market, if not just to measure how far your business has grown. These are a couple of tips that will help you increase the value of your business without costing you an arm and a leg.

Maintain Proper Financial Records

Make sure that you have a proper financial and administration management process within your business. Ensure that all financial transactions within your business are recorded and that the business has a monthly set of management accounts on record

Register Your Business With Relevant Authorities

Ensure that you are registered with all the relevant authorities that govern your business e.g Taxes, company registrar, annual returns, worker’s compensation fund, levies, health and safety etc

Keep A Clean Bank Record

As difficult as it may seem, especially when you are starting out, you need to maintain a clean record with your bank. Do not issue cheques if there is no money in the account, rather negotiate further credit terms from your creditors.

Be Adequately Insured

Make sure that you are adequately insured personally and as business, especially if you are the key person in the business and most of the proprietary business information rests with you.

Build Your Balance Sheet

As you grow the business, build your business’ balance sheet in terms of assets. If you can buy the premises that you do business out of rather than lease. Deposit spare cash (if there is any) in such instruments as call accounts, deposit accounts etc. Always be on the look out for short to medium investments that you can invest in should you have “spare” cash.

Hire Good People

Always hire good people even if they cost you a bit more than your typical average employee.

These tips will enhance the value of your business significantly if you follow them religiously and again they do not cost much. Also remember to pay always pay your taxes! AW Accounting Services for further information.

<img src="http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/Meghan1213/woman3.jpg"align="right">Adding cosmetic procedures is a great way to add services to your existing salon or spa. The only way for any salon or spa to stay in business is to constantly evolve. Adding services that are extensions of the services you currently offer is a good way to get started.

Like any plan to expand, start-up or remain competitive, it should be put to paper. Adding services and otherwise adding diversity to your salon or spa requires a proper business plan, not just a discussion and some notes on a napkin.

The economy can challenge any business that depends on revenue derived from discretionary income. Some existing and prospective salon and spa clients will make the decision to spend less or stop visiting the salon or spa altogether. Adding bundled services that cost a little less, keeps the client’s appearance up, and keeps the client coming back should be developed.

Adding additional salon or spa services can mean bringing in additional equipment that will deliver advanced results without adding an additional staff member.

Every salon and spa should have the resources to afford an expansion. Expanding to add additional services and diversification may not mean you need more square footage. If necessary bring in a space planner to make sure you are using your space efficiently. Consider a campaign to reallocate space for the purpose of bringing in additional services.

For some salons and spas, adding services may not be possible. Most salons and spas are not open seven days a week or extended hours. If your salon or spa can extend your business hours you will increase your bottom line

Adding services like a day care center for the children, parents or even pets of your clients will enhance the services of your salon or spa. In addition to a retail store to sell products used in the salon or spa, consider a catalogue store or a lunch service.

When you add services, products and other enhancements to your salon or spa, make sure you update your website. Consider printing your website out on paper and offer your printed site to each client. Be prepared to verbalize to each client how your web site will enhance his or her service, appearance or lifestyle.

When you add a service or product make sure your clients know as much about that addition as possible. Consider launching the product or service with a special reception that may include promotional attire or salon decorations or some kind of bonus to lure them in.

Find out what your counterparts in Europe and Asia are offering their clients and adjust the product or service for your market. Keeping informed and having an informed staff and clientele will generate additional income. Creating diversification inside your salon or spa should be done with a product or service that your customer, if not given the opportunity, would leave your salon or spa and purchase elsewhere. And after everything you’ve done to get your customers, you don’t want to let them go.
